Koby Clemens to join Rocket Roger on Sugar Land Skeeters

Koby Clemens.jpgThe Sugar Land Skeeters are on top of the Independent baseball world.

As a first year organization things really couldn’t be going any better. The Skeeters are leading the league in attendance with nearly 400,000 through the turnstile after 60 games and are averaging 6,600 per game, also tops in the league.

Scott Kazmir is on the long road to MLB after a dismal experience with the Anaheim Angels in 2010/2011, and former pros Jason Lane and Tim Redding shore up the Skeeters rotation on a weekly basis. More recently, Roger Clemens shocked the world by signing with the Skeeters in his own version of a comeback.

Now, if it couldn’t get any better, Clemens’ son Koby is set to join the team on Friday.

Koby Clemens, now in his eighth year of professional baseball, has over 100 career home runs and over 450 RBI. His career year came in 2009 when he pounded out 22 and drove in 123 for Lancaster and Corpus Christi; affiliates of the Houston Astros. Clemens spent the 2012 season with the Toronto Blue Jays organization splitting time between Dunedin and New Hampshire batting .246 over 64 games.

Needless to say Clemens is thrilled about this opportunity

“First off, I want to thank the Toronto Blue Jays for the opportunity they gave me this year. It was some solid baseball and I enjoyed working hard for them,” said Clemens.

“I also want to thank them for allowing me this opportunity to catch my pops in what should be a fun-filled event in Sugar Land. We’ve had the opportunity to work alongside each other a few years back but never in a pitcher/catcher battery. I’m looking forward to this and hope everyone looking on enjoys it.”

Talk about a special, once in a lifetime moment, for father and son. And if Clemens’ presence on the Skeeters wasn’t enough, what kind of media circus will this draw when a Clemens/Clemens battery takes the field on Friday?
