Shake Your Booty

"Shake Your Booty"

You know you want to!

On Thursday March 6, 2014 at Pope John Paul II on 205 S. Franklin St., in Thunder Bay, you can help fight colon cancer, one booty shake at a time!

The 3rd annual "Shake Your Booty" was started by colon cancer survivor, Maria Lento. The event is all about raising awareness, while engaged a 3-hour Zumba-thon, an intensely fun, dance-fitness workout taking the world by storm.

Last year marked 10 years of survivorship and Maria is doing everything she can to inform friends, family and the community about how you can take preventive measures. The event, as shown on the Shake Your Booty page on the Canadian Cancer Society website, specifically details the importance of this event and how the money raised goes to cancer treatments and precautionary measures.

"The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies."

Within three years, Shake Your Booty has raised tens of thousands of dollars. An eye-popping $11,000 was raised in its first year. Maria, an employee of Scotiabank, was thrilled with bank's support of $5,000 in year two, with another $5,000 committed this year.

Shake Your Booty is great cause put on by a great person. Maria Lento is a someone I work with on a day-to-day basis. She is one of the most generous people I know, and what she is doing is something very special.

Thank you Maria.
