I watched a video and was caught off guard. It's a poignant reminder of the importance of checking in on those around us. Often, the struggles someone faces aren’t visible on the surface. Simply reaching out, whether it’s a text message, a virtual high-five etc...about someone's well-being, can make a significant difference. It's about noticing small changes in demeanour and showing that you're there to support them. I've watched this video several times, and it always gets me. Behind a smile, there might be struggles we know nothing about. I encourage you to watch it—it’s an important message that we...

The Power of Composure: Learning from Hank Aaron In this week’s Wellness Wednesday,  I discuss a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of personal and professional growth: composure. This trait, embodied by none other than Hammerin’ Hank during his legendary career, and especially during his record-breaking 1974 season, showcases the deep-seated impact of maintaining steadiness amidst highs and lows. Ralph Garr, the 1974 NL Batting Champ and teammate, observed Aaron’s demeanour closely. He was never overly excited in victory or pissed off after a loss. He was the epitome of consistency. Composure at this level is not unheard of, but it’s...

Breaking Through 80!

March has been a month of pushing boundaries and proving to myself that limits are just benchmarks. With a few days still left, I've clocked over 77 miles, blowing past February's 64. With determination and focus, you can always do more, go further, and rewrite your own definitions of what’s possible. Comparing stats month-over-month, not only have I increased my distance significantly, but my pace has quickened. Yes, I'm feeling the burn and have daily soreness, but it's a small price to pay for success. Every mile clocked is a mental victory affirming that so-called limits are, frankly, bullshit. This...

Motivation Beyond Recognition: Fueling Change  After a humbling moment of recognition for my efforts in mental health and wellness, I've been reflecting on what motivates me. While receiving an award is an honour, that’s not what this is about. What motivates me goes beyond tangible recognition. It's the possibility that my work, my words, or even a single post might ignite a spark in someone. Perhaps, somewhere, someone sees what I’m sharing and finds the courage to seek help, to initiate change in their life, or simply to feel less alone in their struggle. I’ve said it before, and I’ll...

Embracing Resilience and the Unseen Drive: Inspired by insights from a baseball legend and the unpredictable world of fantasy sports predictions, I wanted to dive into the essence of humility and resilience in sports. With his commendable humility despite an illustrious career, Mark McGwire reminds us that behind every success are countless failures. His willingness to share these lessons with the next generation, emphasizing that failure is a cornerstone of success, made perfect sense. Ryan Lavarnway, a seasoned 10-year MLB veteran, posted that story on LinkedIn. It illustrates the invaluable experience of learning from peers. Witnessing someone of Lavarnway’s caliber...
