The world famous Santa Monica Pier will play host to the 7th annual Tommy Bahama Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival June 11, 2016.
Headlining the event will be surf guitar legend, Dick Dale. Dale, known for his legendary songs such as Misirlou and Let’s Go Trippin, will bring a unique energy to an event that celebrates a SoCal ocean lifestyle.
“The Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival has grown into a celebration of everything to do with the Southern California ocean lifestyle,” said Craig Hoffman, Director of Partnership & Development for the Santa Monica Pier. “To celebrate that we decided to bring in a musical guest who also embodies the same things for a free show during the festival. Dick Dale is a living legend. He is legitimately called ‘the King of Surf Guitar.’ We think he’s the perfect musician to take our event to the next level. We hope that people will come to enjoy the ocean races and festival and stay to enjoy this epic show.”
The 2015 Paddleboard Race and Ocean festival showcased incredible feats of athleticism in multiple events. 2016’s event will be no different. $15,000 is up for grabs for the winners amongst other prizes. Volleyball will also be on the schedule for the second consecutive year. The Tommy Bahama Paddlecross, a short-course sprint race out and back through the surf, is one of the featured events. Several other new competitions will be included on the docket. The all-day festival will begin at 8am.
Without a doubt, this will be a fun filled packed day for everyone involved. This particular event benefits The Bay Foundation, which works with partners to establish originative polices for the Santa Monica Bay with the objective to clean up our waterways, create green spaces in urban areas, and restore natural habitats both on land and under water.
