The clip I want to show you today really is great. I’m not lying.
Head Coach of the Washington Commanders, Ron Rivera was shown announcing the team’s Pro Bowl picks for this year.
And I’ll admit, I haven’t watched too many Hard Knocks episodes on the NFL Network regarding the behind the scenes perspective, but witnessing these types of scenarios where the raw emotion is laid out on the table, really is what makes sports so special.
To play at the type of level these guys is nothing short of a miracle. The numbers suggest it’s something like 1.6% of collegiate athletes making it to the NFL
So when players get acknowledged for their play on the field, it’s a huge owner.
But what this clip shows, and something that I want to try and understand and validate is that that deep down people are genuinely proud of when their colleagues get acknowledged. Or when success is recognized as a result of hardwork.
In whatever sport you play, you can’t hide. You can rest on your laurels. It’s not a dog and pony show where the favorites can hide behind someone and get rewarded for a lackluster performance.
- If you come in for a save and give up the game-winning hit…guess what it’s on you.
- If you allow the Wide Receiver to get behind you and he scores the go-ahead or GW touchdown, guess what, it’s on you
There’s no bullshit, there’s no politics, there’s no playing favorites. You bust your ass, you work hard and it shows. And if there is favoritism it gets exposed very quickly.
