MLB TV is set to add a new set of telecasts beginning with Thursdays Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies game from Citizens Bank Park. This telecast is the first of four that will lead off MLB TV’s new Thursday lineup.
The newly added Thursday’s game will be followed by it regularly scheduled “Thursday Night Baseball”, thus giving fans a newly formed double header. Giving its fans all the insight needed for the highly contested Wild Card and Playoff races that are beginning to take shape. “Baseball is unique in that it has several weekday afternoon games,” Tony Petitti, president and CEO of MLB Network noted in a statement, “and we see this as a great way for MLB Network to distinguish itself.
“We wanted to provide fans with as many live games as possible and we’re looking forward to airing matchups from some of the top contenders in the American and National Leagues,” Petitti added.
The Phillies/Rockies game will precede the 7:05pm Red Sox/Yankees game, a game that has more to do with confidence as the fist place Yankees are looking for their first win over the Red Sox this year.
According to MLB.com, the Thursday and Saturday night games will be simulcasts of local broadcasts, including local announcers. Games though will be blacked out in each team’s home television territory. Viewers in those areas are subject to blackouts and will be provided with alternative programming.
