Did baseball fans get what they expected at 2009 Baseball Winter Meetings in Indianapolis?
Not quite.
A 3-way trade between the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and the Arizona Diamondbacks was the most intriguing. Besides that, the blockbuster that everyone was waiting for did not happen.
You might consider the Chone Figgins signing by the Seattle Mariners the most prolific. However, the negotiations started prior to the meetings. Technically, its doesn’t count!

- CF Curtis Granderson to the New York Yankees
- SP Edwin Jackson and SP Ian Kennedy to the Arizona Diamondbacks
- SP Max Scherzer, RP Phil Coke, CF Austin Jackson, and RP Daniel Schlereth to the Detroit Tigers
2. Atlanta Braves trade closer Rafael Soriano to the Tampa Bay Rays for RP Jesse Chavez
3. Texas Rangers sign oft-injured starter Rich Harden for a base salary of $6.5 million
4. St. Louis Cardinals sign SP Brad Penny to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million, guaranteed….
5. The Milwaukee Brewers sign SP Randy Wolfe to a three-year deal, with a club option for a fourth, totaling $29.75 million.
On a side-note Andy Pettite signed a one-year deal worth an estimated $11.75 million. Petite is now on board for his 13th season in Yankee pinstripes.
