For the past few years, I’ve been working closely with someone, helping him make significant strides in his personal finances and planning for life beyond baseball.
We developed a comprehensive plan that includes managing current earnings, investments, and savings to ensure long-term stability beyond the game and into retirement.
We’ve also meticulously reviewed contracts with existing sponsors and explored potential sponsorship opportunities while evaluating the long-term financial impact of each deal.
One of the most difficult conversations was about his aspirations post-baseball, exploring potential career paths, and preparing for a smooth transition. It’s never easy to have this talk, especially when you’ve focused the majority of your life on attaining one goal.
It’s important to note that I was not replacing his current team of agents, lawyers, etc., but rather providing a middle-man approach, offering a different perspective that many athletes haven’t had for quite some time. This was def something he appreciated, including sharing this genuine post.
Beyond the numbers and what happens on the field, we’ve developed a relationship that transcends the game as we’ve dealt with personal issues and challenges.
Recently, he sent me a heartfelt note saying, “Devon, I can’t thank you enough. Your knowledge of finances comforted me and my family. Your transparency and honesty—especially in delivering hard news—was refreshing in an industry where trust is scarce.”
That comment means more than you could imagine.
