The GM’s Perspective Exclusive

Posted on October 11, 2009 by Devon Teeple

Athletics Red Sox BaseballTo all of our “Perspective Viewers”, if you witnessed the LA Angles comeback today, you are all stunned by its conclusion.

One of the elite closers in the game Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox, came into the ninth with a three-run lead, a lead so huge that almost any pitcher in the game could get through it unscathed.

Unfortunately, Papelbon allowed four runs, thus ending the Red Sox 2009 playoff journey.

Is it a coincidence that he lost that lead or something more?

Stay tuned to find out.

Interesting that all 4 losing teams blew a ninth inning lead this year. They also tied a first round playoff low of 13 games played. This in a playoff format that only pays the players for the first 12 games played in the first round.
