Again, much thanks to Mr. Jason Libbert and the Pensacola Pelicans for this breaking news!!
The Pensacola Pelicans will be well represented at the 2010 American Association All-Star game on Tuesday, July 27. Manager Talmadge Nunnari will be the South Division manager, Justin Lord will be the pitching coach, Lou Palmisano will be the starting catcher, pitcher Ron Hill will come out of the bullpen, and Pelicans designated hitter John Alonso will be a reserve player for the mid-season classic. This year’s contest will be played at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas, home of the Wingnuts.
With Pensacola winning the 2009 South Division Title, Nunnari and Lord were named the 2010 all-star coaches. Similarly, Marty Scott, manager of the Lincoln Saltdogs, will manage the North team for the game.
Palmisano is currently batting .310 with eight homeruns, eight doubles, 25 walks, and 27 runs batted in. The Pembroke Pines, Florida native is regarded as one of the best catchers in the league in all aspects of the game. Palmisano has worked well with this Pelicans pitching staff and calls his own game every time he’s behind the dish.
Pelicans’ reliever Ron Hill has been fantastic in the bullpen this year as he holds a very stingy 2.05 ERA in 26 plus innings pitched. Hill has converted five saves and struck out 16 batters on the season.
John Alonso will be going to his first American Association All-Star game this season. The Orlando, Florida resident will be serving as a utility reserve for the South squad. Alonso is currently batting a very impressive and team leading .381 with 67 hits, four homeruns, 15 doubles, one triple, and 28 RBI on the campaign so far.
All the all-stars were voted on by the league managers and a media representative from each team.
Former Pelicans Palmer Karr (OF), Dustin Cameron (P), Brandon Sing (1B), Nick Singleton (P), and Chris Thompson (P) will also be participating in the game.
Tickets are very affordable beginning at $7. Fans can purchase tickets in advance and print from home via the Pelicans website: www.pensacolapelicans.com. Additionally, fans can purchase tickets over the phone at (850) 934-8444.
