Ottawa Champions’ Elias signs with D-Backs
Only a few short months after signing with the Ottawa Champions, Ethan Elias has signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Alberta native Elias was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Grand Trunk High school. Elias spent the first three years of his professional career working up to A ball within the Cubs organization. His best season came in 2012 when he went 1-2 with a 3.90 ERA in 30 innings. He struck out 22 while walking only six. In his first independent league season with the Normal CornBelters, Elias appeared in 19 games, surrendering 49 hits in 58 innings striking out 66.
Indy star on the move again
Chris Colabello, who signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in December, has been designated for assignment. The 2013 IL MVP, who is now a member of the Buffalo Bisons, can still get back to Toronto if he put up the numbers he’s capable of. Unfortunately, with Edwin Encarnacion, Justin Smoak, Danny Valencia, and the newly acquired Dayan Viciedo, all vying for playing time, he’s really facing an uphill battle.
