After an outstanding start, New York Mets ink Grotz to minor league deal

Posted on June 10, 2018 by Devon Teeple

Seven games and 32 innings was all it took before the New York Mets signed Zac Grotz to a minor league deal. When I said it would only be a matter of time before he got another shot, I didn’t realize it would only be a couple weeks.

The last time we saw Grotz, he had just come off a nine-inning complete game shutout and put together 21.2 consecutive scoreless innings. Since, Grotz hasn’t seen the same amount of success (1-1, 6.55 ERA, six BB, 12 SO), but still ranks 5th in league in ERA and 9th in strikeouts with 33.

This will be the second time Grotz joins the affiliated ranks. His first two professional seasons were spent within the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.

“We are all very happy for Zac,” said manager Mark Mason. “He has worked extremely hard and has been very focused on getting better. We wish him the best and hopefully he will take full advantage of this great opportunity.”

It’s unknown where he’ll begin the next step in this journey, but for someone with a career 19-9 record and an impressive 2.62 ERA, success is one thing you can be certain off.

Congrats to Grotz on this amazing accomplishment, and kudos again to the Independent Leagues for making these deals possible.
